Evan S. Berry is in his fourth year as Director of Bands at Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas. He is in charge of the Wind Ensemble, co-directs the Symphony Orchestra, assists with the Symphonic Band, and directs both the pit orchestra and the MacArthur Marching Band. In addition to MacArthur, Evan is a current member of the brass educational team with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle corps, and former staff member of both the Crossmen and Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Previously, Evan was an assistant band director at both James Madison High School, and Byron P. Steele II High School in the greater San Antonio area.
Originally from Washington D.C., Evan attended River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland before pursuing a degree in music. In the spring of 2013, Evan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a concentration in trumpet.
In performance, Evan was a member of the Duquesne Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab, and athletic bands. While a student at Duquesne, he studied with Charles Lirette, Co-Principal Trumpet of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and previously with Stuart Smith, former trumpet with the San Antonio Symphony. Additionally, Evan was a member of the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps from 2007-2009, and 10-Time World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2010-2012.
Cesar Gonzalez is the Assistant Band Director/ Percussion Director at MacArthur High School. He has a BA in Music Education with an All-Level Teaching Certification from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
Cesar coordinates all percussion activities at Mac including the marching percussion ensemble, private lessons, indoor percussion ensemble and concert percussion sections. He is also the percussion arranger for the MacArthur Marching Band and the music and visual designer for the MacArthur Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Cesar assists the middle school percussion programs at Garner, Driscoll and Bradley.
Outside of MacArthur, Cesar is heavily involved with Winter Guard International. He is the ensemble director and show designer for Independent Open Class Finalist, Violet Crown Independent. As a performer, Cesar spent two summers with The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from San Antonio, TX in 2012 and 2013. He also performed with Imperial Percussion Theater from 2012-2013 and aged out with Teatro Indoor Percussion in 2014.
Alexia Beasley is the Assistant Band Director at MacArthur High School. Originally from Round Rock, TX, Alexia attended Cedar Ridge High School. Growing up, she played saxophone in the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble, and performed as a member of the drumline in the Cedar Ridge Marching Band.
She continued her studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.M. in Music Education, and a Certificate in Saxophone Performance. While at UTSA, Alexia performed in the UTSA Wind Ensemble, UTSA Sax Quartet, UTSA Sax Ensemble, and in the drumline with the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio. She’s also an active chamber music arranger for several collegiate, high school, and community ensembles in the greater San Antonio area. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, mountain biking, and catching up on her favorite TV shows and movies.
Zachariah R. Jacobes is the Director of the Color Guard at Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas. The 2019-2020 school year will be his second year as Color Guard Director for MacArthur. As the director of the color guard, his responsibilities include, choreographing, teaching dance, teaching weapons, and flag technique training. Previously, Zach was the Color Guard Director at Perkiomen Valley High School who's Color Guard won Indoor TIA Atlantic Coast Championships in 2017 (Intermediate A Class) and 2018 (A Class). Additionally, Zach will serve in his first year as a second grade teacher at Wilshire Elementary School in North East Independent School District.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Zach attended East Stroudsburg University and he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality in May of 2016. In the winter of 2017 Zach started a job as a teacher’s assistant of special education for the Perkiomen Valley school district. Finding a passion for teaching, he decided to go back to school and is currently finishing his Masters’ in Education Pre-K - 4th Grade.
As a performer, Zach was a member and captain of Q Independent Performance Ensemble from 2012-2017. Additionally, Zach was a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011-2012, performing in the color guard. Following the Madison Scouts, he was a color guard member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2013-2014 performing at DCI World Championship placing in the top ten both years.
