Hector Trevino is the current Director of Bands at Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas. He earned a masters degree in Educational Leadership from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and his Bachelor in Music Education from Texas A&M University at Kingsville. His experiences working with multiple instrumental and vocal ensembles in San Antonio has given him a different perspective on his approach to teaching band. Mr. Trevino has written pieces for several ensembles in addition to being a marching band arranger.
Prior to joining the MacArthur family he led the Luther Burbank High School Band program from 2016 until 2021. Under his direction the band earned many consecutive sweepstakes. The marching band qualified for UIL area finals for the first time in their district’s history, and the wind ensemble earned many accolades including being selected as one of three featured bands from the state to perform at the 2021 TMEA convention. From 2012 to 2016 he served the John Greenleaf Whittier Middle School Band program as their Director of Bands.
Mr. Trevino is an active member of TMEA and has served as a convention clinician, UIL adjudicator, as well as a conductor for ATSSB Region Band. Other memberships include the Texas Band Masters Association, the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Veronica Salinas will be in her first year at MacArthur High School Band for the 2023-2024 academic year. She is a South Texas native, and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where she served as the principal oboist in the Wind Ensemble and Kingsville Symphony Orchestra.
She began her teaching career as a middle school band director in Clarksville, TX, where she assisted with the high school color guard. She then joined Cypress Fairbanks ISD as a double reed studio teacher, successfully managing a thriving studio with over 40 students.
For the past three years, Mrs. Salinas has served as an assistant band director and color guard director at Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District. Her expertise and dedication have contributed to the achievements of her students, including an appearance at the UIL State Marching Contest and two-time State Finalist titles at the Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championships with the ENCG.
Mrs. Salinas is an active member in the marching arts community. Her performance career began with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015 and 2016 as a color guard performer. She went on to perform with ATX Winterguard, and was privileged to experience being a WGI World Championships Finalist. After her age-out in 2016, Mrs. Salinas joined Genesis on staff as a visual and movement technician, where she continues to work to this day.
Marshall Summers, a native San Antonian, is currently the Percussion Director at Douglas MacArthur High School. Mr. Summers was the Director of Percussion at Dr. Leo G. Cigarroa High School in Laredo, Texas for three years. He coordinated and oversaw all percussion curriculum, events, and daily instruction for grades 6th-12th. With his guidance, the marching percussion section regularly placed in caption awards at competitions in South Texas. His students made school history in 2019 when the Cigarroa Marching Band made its first appearance at the UIL Area G Marching Band Finals.
Marshall is a graduate of O’Connor HS. His senior year he performed at PASIC 2011 in Indianapolis and took home two awards: 2nd place for Original Multi-Tenor Solo and 1st place for Multi-Tenor Ensemble. Marshall graduated with a B.M. in Music Education and a certificate in percussion performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He studied with Professor Sherry Rubins, Dr. Graeme Francis, and Professor Micheal Mixtacki. He became proficient in many percussion styles such as marching, concert, jazz drum set, and latin percussion by being a member of the Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, UTSA Indoor, Percussion Ensemble, and the student-led Salsa Band.
I was born and raised in Rochester, New York where I began my marching career in 2008. I marched with a group called the Mighty Liberators until 2012 where I then began to march with the Patriots until my age out in 2016. During those years I have been blessed to have won several championships, become WGI regional finalists at numerous regionals, and even finalists at the Winterguard International Championships.
Once I aged out, I began my teaching career as a tech with the Gates Chili Winterguard in 2016. After a few years I was given the opportunity to relocate to the Big Apple which I couldn’t pass up!
After a few months in New York City, I began to miss what I loved most which was guard. I then auditioned for the Independent World group Alter Ego where I would spend the next 2 years back doing what I loved. Unfortunately that would end due to the pandemic that hit us in 2020.
Once the pandemic began to die down in about 2022, I came to visit a friend who introduced me to the colorguard community here in San Antonio where the void of guard in my life was filled once again. I then relocated to San Antonio to work at Churchill High School where I currently work to date.
